ART CAMP - Barham NSW June 2015

ART CAMP 2015
13th & 14th June, 2015

I am excited at announce the first studio workshop for the 2015 winter/spring season. The first ART CAMP will be held on 13 th & 14th June, amongst the towering red gums of the Thule Lagoon. I will lead a day teaching the art of sketchbooking. In my class I will talk about my love of making and working in sketchbooks and how these drawings provide the basis for my painting and printmaking work. The sketchbooks become a work of art in their own right and are a treasured part of my art practice. We will spend the day wandering the farm and taking in the many sites, drawing, watercolouring and experimenting with a variety of media to create interesting visual material.

Day 2 will be a day of drypoint etching referencing the images made the previous day, led by our host Wendy McDonald. You will learn to make a drypoint plate and be able to print the image on Wendy's press in the studio. This is a great introduction to printmaking if you have ever thought about giving it a go!

As well as tuition and materials, the price of $385 pp. includes:

Accommodation for Fri and Sat night - your choice of a bed in the studio cottage OR camping by the fire, under the stars, in a canvas swag or tent (which we will provide for you). There are 4 places available for the camping or cottage option, you choose!

The weekend will be fully catered for, featuring fruit and veg from the farmhouse garden and local Redgum Foodgroup goodies. There will be provisions for a self serve breakfast and lunch in the studio. Morning and afternoon tea served in the farmhouse garden or by the Aga in the kitchen (weather depending). The Saturday evening meal will be cooked on the campfire and catered for by Lauren Mathers, from the famous Bundarra Berkshires, with a complimentary glass of Restdown Wine.

There will be time before and after class to bush walk, birdwatch, read or draw and just soak up the environment that the beautiful farm "Glencoe". With the homestead and out buildings dating from the 1930's set amongst the trees on the banks of the ancient Thule Lagoon (which was once the Murray River), the Art Camp offers a chance to immerse yourself in our life on the farm in the "River Country".

Extra nights accommodation are available from $50 pp. We are in the middle of the Backroads Trail. Visits to neighbouring farms on the trail, including Barham Avocados, can be arranged.

Bookbinding - Make your own Sketchbook 22nd February 2015

Bookbinding – Make your own sketchbook

For my first class back at The Art Room for 2015 I will be teaching a very special class on making your own sketchbooks! Bookbinding is a skill that is essential to my creative practice and something that I call on constantly. I am so please to be able to share these techniques with you in this class.

Keeping a sketchbook or journal is an important part of the creative process for many artists. In this workshop you will learn how to make your own unique and personal case-bound sketchbook from beautiful paper and cloth covers.
Students will learn the traditional techniques of sewing pages together for their books and how to glue and attach covers. Being able to make a book yourself enables you to choose the size, papers, colour and feel of a sketchbook. Bookbinding is an excellent skill to have especially when you go to buy a nice sketchbook and you are faced with so many factory made books that often contain poor quality papers and bindings that fall apart quickly and easily.
These sketchbooks are perfect to fill with your note making and sketches. Anyone can make a book, you do not need to have any previous bookbinding experience to participate in this class and you will leave the class confident and equipped to make many more of your own books.
Sunday 22nd February 2015
10-3pm
$195 full fee or $170 student (cost of class includes a full materials kit)
