new work and a new gallery

Here is a new textile piece that I have been working on for a while. I think it is my favorite so far and I am not sure that I can give it up.

I made these collages and watercolours today too which are sort of mock-up for some large paintings that I am going to make. I am enjoying burnt orange at the moment and golden yellow as you can tell! These ideas need a bit more work, but I think they are getting somewhere.

These are some new drawings for some etchings that I am working on.

new paintings almost finished

Here are some photos of my almost finished paintings. There is one more smaller one that needs a bit more work before I can add it to the collection. I am loving painting buildings, it satisfies my inner architect and stylist. It also takes me back to walking down Italian and Spanish streets. Sigh...

new painting

I finally got up the courage to start painting again... it has taken me all year, but for some reason I got into the studio today feeling really inspired to get stuck into them. It is probably spurred on by ordering new stretchers for a commission. This painting started out as a European based painting, but now I am interested in creating a more Australian feel. You can't see it so well in this image, but Captain Cook and his men are scratched in the clouds and the mountains of Hobart appear in the background. I have two more paintings on the go and I think I have worked out how to resolve my etchings...!!

studio love

It has been a big week and weekend. there is a lot going on at the moment... mostly fun things really. i have been doing lots of driving lately. a weekend down in Somers for a wonderful dinner party at a friend's house. we went for a soggy beach walk and i visited Pamela who wowed me with her scarf eco-printed with eucalyptus cinerea! The reddest red i have ever seen!

The explorer you see here is a quick snap of the etching plate with a fantastic aquatint thanks to Jennifer's wonderful studio in Red Hill.

The top pics are my studio and the one's below 'Melbourne' are of Laura's studio... I hope you don't mind Laura! I went to Laura's studio on the weekend too for a little craft day. I was mostly in awe of all the beautiful things to look at.

bunting flags and explorers

so there are two projects on the go here. i have been making lots of buntings to sell. i have fallen in love with some of them and don't want to lose them! but it must be done... i must be brave!

the prints turned out okay. this is the print i have touched up with black watercolour to give me a guide as to how dark i need to etch the black... the circular window into a building is a little sketch... leading somewhere... not sure where yet.
