Drawing Club 2

Week two of drawing club. I have formulated an idea that I would like to draw old-fashioned children's objects of play. Lat week was this old fashioned skipping rope and this week I will draw a tin can telephone. I would like to draw some quoites next. All of these objects have a linking rope or string. Not sure the meaning of this yet... but it is a nice link between all of the objects.

Nancy Bird shoot in my studio

Late last year we were lucky enough to host the Nancy Bird photo shoot at the Schoolhouse. And yesterday I was very excited to see Emily Wright was interviewed on the Design Files (swoon!) She is such an awesome lady and so talented. Here are a couple of images of the shoot in my studio. You can see more photos of the shoot on the Nancy Bird website. x

Drawing club

Today we began 8 weeks of Friday morning drawing in the Chapel. I didn't realise how long it has been since I sat down and really looked at objects and tried to draw them. The discipline of sitting down and focusing on something for 3 hours is hard, but ultimitely satisfying. The whole time I kept asking myself "How does this relate to my work?". I feel multiple personalities coming to a head when I draw realistically, when I freely draw for illustration and when I make prints... I guess it is your hand in all of it and the things your eye picks up on. Anyway, it is good to think about and good to spend the time really looking. x
I think the sharpenings drawing is my favorite. It captures playfulness and represents what was in front of me. I might try and do some more like this. I will keep you informed!
