Lots of Things

It's been a busy week and month in the studio and around and about. (Above) Jess came and printed her wedding invitations on my press which was so lovely. I have been editioning etchings... keep your eyes peeled in the galleries in the coming weeks... and I've been sewing some lovely things for Kinder Gallery... Tea in the studio is always so lovely and well thought out. I love being around people who are engaged in their work too. I found the orange kettle for Alice and Atticus is rarely asleep as he is here... such a rare treasure. x

In the Studio

I have been hanging my work in my space. It is such a homely space that it is nice to make it feel warmed by work. It is also nice to get to know my work by viewing it on the wall every day. I have been painting little houses that my grandpa made for me out of blocks of offcuts. He is a very clever wood worker and I am privileged to have him help me on this little project. I will be selling the houses at the Show and Tell market this Saturday!!

goings on diary

It has been a crazy little old month since I last posted. I can't believe it have been so long...

So I can talk about what I have been up to now! Aden Narkowicz and I have been commissioned to create interactive artistic content for an external lighting structure at the Princes Wharf development site in Hobart. It is pretty exciting! More to come soon...

Aden and I were also lucky enough to get a residency at the art school in Hobart, which is perfectly located across the way from the site of the project.

It's nice to be back in Melbourne at the moment and working on the project from here as well as my own work and hanging out with pupski (as featured with his mates in Warrandyte.) I have been working on some new sewn collages that I started down in Hobart. I am looking at Wardian cases and filing them with strange objects like paper planes and clouds. I like that idea that settlers not only brought plants over to Australia in these portable glass houses, they also brought ideals and ways of thinking.

These are just works in progress.

I have decided to revisit this painting too. I need to finish it! I like the black but my thoughts are that I might paint over it in a soft greeny white... any thoughts?

studio love

It has been a big week and weekend. there is a lot going on at the moment... mostly fun things really. i have been doing lots of driving lately. a weekend down in Somers for a wonderful dinner party at a friend's house. we went for a soggy beach walk and i visited Pamela who wowed me with her scarf eco-printed with eucalyptus cinerea! The reddest red i have ever seen!

The top pics are my studio and the one's below 'Melbourne' are of Laura's studio... I hope you don't mind Laura! I went to Laura's studio on the weekend too for a little craft day. I was mostly in awe of all the beautiful things to look at.

quilt dreamer

Someone found a nice home in my quilt the other evening as I finished quilting this project that has been a long time in the making. now i only need to add the binding. Oh and here is my glass bottle collection... slowly growing over the years.

It is so cold in the studio today and i am working on some light related ideas. Thoughts of light is warming. xx

Tasmania and Quilts

I was in Tasmania on the weekend. Can't say why yet, but my friend and collaborator Aden and I spent lots of time in and around Salamanca and Sullivan's cove. It was beautiful there but so cold. Lucky I found a japara for $15 in the oppy! So many great opp-shops down there! I didn't capture the beauty of Tas in these pictures, but I will be heading back again in a few weeks.

I came home to a lovely warm house in Melbourne and little A who is particularly snugly this time of year! The fabric was acquired for a friend's commissioned baby quilt. It was hard to choose but after being in Tasmania I decided to reference the lush greens and little St. Ives-esque villages, country cottage feel. The boat/cottage fabric is a liberty and the others compliment well to make it lovely and fresh looking.

the new studio

i moved house and studio over the last few weeks. it has been wonderful to finally settle in. atticus has a friend (chico) in the studio and the two of them are thick as thieves until they are both so exhausted that they crash!

the picture of the window and parsley in the sun is my desk at home in the front room. it is a lovely space to do nice things like sewing and spanish homework, story boards and drawings.. in winter we can pull the arm chairs in there and have the fire going.

the studio in brunswick has slowly been getting set up to be able to print again. lately i have been working on illustration stuff and photographing... good projects to start off in a studio. there is a great atomsphere there. we are right by triple r radio station and a wonderful oval for doggy runs.

new cushions

atticus has his own bed, but has taken to my new cushions i made last night. the text is from some tea towels. one is melbourne and the other sydney. atti always chooses the melbourne one. good man.

hello atticus

this is atticus. he is my new little friend. he is in the studio with me today being a very good boy. i made him this little red bed and he loves. he has been exploring everywhere and then is exhausted and loves cuddles.

the houses are a piece i am finishing in a tin to send to wales.
