Back to the Press

I want to make a concerted effort to update this here blog a bit more now that I am back in the studio part time. Two weeks ago I got back to my beloved press and printed a few proofs of two new plates that I am working on. Tomorrow I will edition the plates that last Friday I went and aquatinted at the Australian Print Workshop. Fingers crossed it comes out ok.

Nancy Bird shoot in my studio

Late last year we were lucky enough to host the Nancy Bird photo shoot at the Schoolhouse. And yesterday I was very excited to see Emily Wright was interviewed on the Design Files (swoon!) Illustrations Saturday

I have been doing some illustrations for my Dad's book. I made this image with a red mask but really liked the strange colour so here it is. The actual image for the book is black and white.

I got to the studio today and Gemma in the upstairs studio had her sewing class on and there was a yellow cord hanging out of her window for her students to ring the bell. I really loved seeing it. It made me think of Rapunzel. So here is a little drawing inspired by it.

Chutney and Studio Love

I made some green tomato chutney from the last of my tommies from the garden. It is pretty yum. Has a nice amount of chilli happening. Here is some pics of the studio. I have been spending lots of time in the studio lately, working hard and working out my next body of work. Some etchings and small paintings. I think I am coming down with a cold so I might lay low for a few days! x

En curso

Productive day in the studio. A pin board with works in progress and a new textile piece on it's way. Also the new labels I got made to put on the backs of my textile works.

Here are some photos of my almost finished paintings. There is one more smaller one that needs a bit more work before I can add it to the collection. I am loving painting buildings, it satisfies my inner architect and stylist. It also takes me back to walking down Italian and Spanish streets. Sigh...

studio love

It has been a big week and weekend. there is a lot going on at the moment... mostly fun things really. i have been doing lots of driving lately. a weekend down in Somers for a wonderful dinner party at a friend's house. we went for a soggy beach walk and i visited Pamela who wowed me with her scarf eco-printed with eucalyptus cinerea! The reddest red i have ever seen!

The top pics are my studio and the one's below 'Melbourne' are of Laura's studio... I hope you don't mind Laura! I went to Laura's studio on the weekend too for a little craft day. I was mostly in awe of all the beautiful things to look at.

bunting flags and explorers

so there are two projects on the go here. i have been making lots of buntings to sell. i have fallen in love with some of them and don't want to lose them! but it must be done... i must be brave!

the prints turned out okay. this is the print i have touched up with black watercolour to give me a guide as to how dark i need to etch the black... the circular window into a building is a little sketch... leading somewhere... not sure where yet.

studio wednesday

today is slower... i have a spanish class and plans to make some more bunting flags. i love making them, they are simple and pretty. I am going to open a little shop (online) and sell some on there... maybe some market stall action too. 

it is a cold day but i look out at my little front garden... the beetroot is filling out and the rosemary looks neater after its haircut.

i've been revisiting old images from my travels and getting nostalgic! i want to reference these colours in my work... greys, green, red, whites, brown.

the new studio

i moved house and studio over the last few weeks. it has been wonderful to finally settle in. atticus has a friend (chico) in the studio and the two of them are thick as thieves until they are both so exhausted that they crash!

the picture of the window and parsley in the sun is my desk at home in the front room. it is a lovely space to do nice things like sewing and spanish homework, story boards and drawings.. in winter we can pull the arm chairs in there and have the fire going.

the studio in brunswick has slowly been getting set up to be able to print again. lately i have been working on illustration stuff and photographing... good projects to start off in a studio. there is a great atomsphere there. we are right by triple r radio station and a wonderful oval for doggy runs.

things and things

hello friends... well last week was a big week, and this week is the big show... the show at brunswick street gallery went really well. lots of great work in the exhibition. i was really happy with how mine was hung. great frames by grate designs, (thanks guys!)

in the studio today i have been unwrapping eco-printed scarves and finishing presents for mothers and doing some drawing. a few of these pics are from the other day when i cut out my whole story logo from some really great rubber which you can get in the frankston art shop (thanks pamela), but i am sure a lot of other places sell it too.

'whole story' is the name i am going to use for my screen printed designs. the boy on the bike and the shops are my first designs to get stuck on screens... i will give you up dates as i get them going! the shops are half cut already. i am using foteco green stencil film, easy as butter to cut... lets hope it sticks!

i've been making clothes too, doing a class at amitie. it is such a wonderful skills. this brown floral was given to me by pamela (thanks again!) and i have made it the detail of the shirt depicted in the pattern, the one on the left.

the dog's name is kai. he is my families dog... he like to sit outside the studio and check in on me every now and then. a dog of my own is arriving next week... he will be my studio buddiy... more photos to come soon!!
